Qinci

Guide

Setup and support

Updated September 2026. How Qinci reads your catalogue, how to set it up, and answers to the questions merchants ask most. The full in-app walkthrough, with every Settings screen, is under Guide once you've installed.

What Qinci reads

Qinci recommends by reading each product's INCI ingredient list, in this order: the custom.inci_list metafield, an "Ingredients:" list in the product description, or a built-in reference table of roughly 250 common third-party products (The Ordinary, CeraVe, La Roche-Posay, COSRX, Paula's Choice, Beauty of Joseon, Anua and more). A product with none of those simply isn't scored - it never breaks a recommendation, it's just left out.

Setup, step by step

  • Install and approve permissions. Qinci reads products, orders and metafields, and writes a small automatic discount - nothing else.
  • Let the catalogue sync. Runs automatically on install. The admin Dashboard shows what share of your catalogue has a readable ingredient list once it's done.
  • Fill the gaps. See the next section if coverage is low.
  • Turn on the storefront widget. Online Store → Themes → Customize → App embeds → "Qinci widget loader" → on → Save.
  • Add a product to a cart to test it. The recommendation card appears on the product page and cart, and re-checks after every cart change.

Mapping your ingredient list

This is the one thing worth getting right first, since everything else depends on it. Two ways to fill a gap in coverage:

  • Metafield - add the ingredient list to custom.inci_list on each product (bulk edit, a metafield app, or Qinci's own CSV importer), then re-sync from Settings.
  • CSV - Settings → Import INCI from CSV, a file with title, inci columns. Qinci matches by product title. A metafield always wins on the next re-sync, so a CSV is safe to use as a stopgap while you fill in metafields properly.

You don't need every product covered before it's useful - Qinci scores whatever it can read, and the built-in reference table already covers hundreds of common third-party SKUs even before you've mapped anything of your own.

Troubleshooting

  • The widget doesn't appear. Check the app embed is on in the theme editor, the widget is enabled in Settings, and the page isn't on your "hide on" list. It only shows once there's something in the cart, on a product or cart page.
  • Ingredient coverage is stuck low. Most products have no ingredient list on file yet - see "Mapping your ingredient list" above.
  • A recommendation looks wrong. Use "Report a bug" at the top of the Dashboard or Settings screen - pick "wrong ingredient" or "wrong behaviour" and describe it. It reaches us with your store details attached.
  • I want to change or cancel my plan. Open Billing in the admin nav. Billed through Shopify; changes and cancellation happen there, take effect immediately, and nothing is charged outside Shopify's billing.
